Passenger window auto down

I had thought it was a US regulation of some sort, that only the driver side power window could have the auto down function. Don't know where I heard it and maybe it was pure bunk? All other cars I've known only had this in the driver's window. My smart's passenger window has it. So, was I mistaken to start with ... or has something changed in the law ... or is my smart a criminal?

I dont know about East Coast, but on the West Coast we have had that for years. My 1999 Lexus at the time had all 4 windows up and down with one touch.

I'm amazed at the number of cars that don't have this feature on all the windows. My Volkswagen's have it on all the windows and not only is it auto down but auto up as well! I find it extremely convienent and don't like the idea of any car with out it.

From two responses, my guess it I'd bought into a myth.

Seems to me the auto UP you mention could be a safety hazard though.

There is a pinch protector built in much like your garage door. When it senses a preset amount of resistance it automatically retracts back into the door. I've put my finger in the window to test it and it really isn't very much pressure at all.

Fowvay,

You're pretty brave to try your finger in the window. Maybe a carrot wrapped in a plastic bag....

I still want an automatic UP when the car is parked and it rains. I've had this happen at work and especially at night at home.

My VW "new" Beetle had an auto up function but only with the key while locking the car. It also closed the sun roof.

For those wou want to experiment, I've seen that the "device" used to test hand tools was a hotdog. Hold the mustard though!
