I have a 2005 Smart Car, My last tank I got 25 miles per gallon. I have 3800 miles on it. I had the oil changed once. White smoke comes out of the exhaust at times. The Ford dealership where I bought it assures me it is ok. Someone suggested going to the airport for 100 octane gas for better mileage. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
If you are also losing coolant you could have a cracked or warped head or (hopefully) just a blown head gasket. Check your oil and see if there is any free water or coffee icecream-colored mud on the dipstick (emulsified oil/coolant).
Sometimes an aluminum-head engine with a bad head seal will smoke white until the engine heats up and the head expands and closes the leak.
Have the Ford dealer check your compression when the engine is cold - 25 MPG and white smoke certainly sounds like something is amiss in the upper end.
Add: C/R for the turbo gasser is 9.5:1 (18.5:1 if a diesel).
