Post Your Warranty Claims

These are great cars & we love 'em, but they're not perfect...

Let's start a list of warranty claims for service needs and/or failed parts that require(d) a trip to the dealer.

What failed?

Approximate age/mileage?

Dealer service dept. rating: A, B, C, D, F

This can be a good, running log of problems both chronic and unusual.

I'll begin by stating that the sunshade on our passion coupe has bound up after less than 2 weeks and 300 miles. Appears to have shrunk in 100+ degree days here. Not been to the dealer yet.

Next?

Another break switch failure

I have a 2008 Passion. Had it almost a month with about 1,025 miles on it.

Two days ago in my driveway, it would not come out of Park, ESP and ESP indicators were on and there were no brake lights.

Called Smartusa, they sent out a towtruck and it was towed to the Dallas Smartcenter. Allison says it has a defective brake switch and there is no estimated time on when they can get a new switch.

I will update this as my sordid tale progresses (egresses?).

Broken windshield in transit, fixed before delivery.

Both of our cabrios have carpets that curl in the area of the front corner of the door on the passenger side. One was replaced last month, the other will be on Monday.

Air Conditioning at 2 miles. The car had another 11 miles on it before delivery.

A plug in a wiring harness to a sensor was not completely fastened and locked during assembly, and it finally shook loose enough to break the connection. Since it was not completely apart, it took three hours for them to find.

Could have happened to any car. I'll give the service department (Chris) an A. (Hartford)

about 1000 miles I had the shifter problem. Grease was all it took to fix. Not what I would call a true "warranty" claim.

about 4500 sqeak developed when opening the lift glass. Smart Center Portland noticed the problem and ordered a new black plasitc piece that goes across the top. Seems that piece had warped.

Upon installation of the warped part, SCP noticed that the squeaky part had scratched the roof (small scratch). They insist on ordering a new roof. Should be here soon.

As for the service, how many dealers notice an issue with your car that you don't notice and then insist on fixing them? Bryce and the entire gang at SCP are fantastic - an A+

Dealers get paid by the warranty servicing company whenever they perform a warranty repair. It's an income generator. So it is in their financial interest to find more warranty claims.

Rear Hatch collecting water from rain/carwash

The leak exposes itself when you open the hatch and water pees out of the upper left corner of the hatch frame. Dealer replaced the hatch. 4200 miles

Awaiting replacement of shade ....parts ordered. Same failure mode as many others have had.

smart center of latham rated ....A+

Engine light came on in first 150 miles. Turned out to be a secondary airflow valve. Went in early in the morning and the dealer replaced it, re-did my alignment, and gave the car a nice wash by the evening of the next day. They were very courteous!

B+ (would have given A+ except they predicted they would have my car overnite and made me go to the Enterprise counter and pay myself for a rental. Even the Enterprise guy was surprised. I wrote to Smart USA and never got a response) :kicknuts:--"the enterprise counter is over there"

There is a problem with the AM modulator on some cars. It is a Warrantee repair. Mine was not however because when I had my XM installed at a local Car audio shop VIBEZ PERFORMANCE AUDIO in champaign Urbana, they spliced the FM XM modulator into the antenna instead of using adaptors. AND no, they will not take any responsibility and I had to pay 550 dollars for the repair. The rest of you get it for free.
