Power steering... Worth $700???

Is power steering a necessity on the Smart 451? Or is it one of those "nice to have" things, like heated seats?

Electric Power Steering adds $700 to the price of the car.

I've got it, didn't realize I paid that much for it. With the price in mind, I'd probably say skip it. I haven't driven a smart without it though. Certainly not a MUST have.

I thought it's only a US$450 option?

My wifes has power steering. Something we were stuck with since we bought an orphan. Completely unnecessary on a light car with fairly narrow tires. IIRC, it was only $400 but I wouldn't even think it nice to have.

I'm being in Canada... $700 for the option, or included in the Passion.

Right now I'm trying to decide if I should just get a Pure with the options I want, or spend the extra and end up with a Passion.

Another case of us Canadians being ripped off!

yea, yea....it's more $$ in Canada, BUT you guys get SOOOOO many more options to chose from than we do here in the States.

so stop your whining about having to pay $700.....even the $450 that WE are asked to pay is too much.

save your $$ and put it on some of that 'other' stuff. YOU DON'T NEED the EPS!!!!

My 2008 smart fortwo does not have power steering and does not need it. With 55% of the weight on the rear wheels and 45% on the front, the steering is light and needs no power assist. For example, with the car parked in my car port, I can turn the wheel with the heel of one hand pressing on the steering wheel. -MrJack

You do realize that your warranty is twice what ours is, and your Passion model comes better equipped as standard than ours does, right?

I'm only referring to the power steering...

$700 here vs $450 there. The dollar is almost the same. The steering parts are identical between the two countries. How can an extra $250 be justified for JUST the power steering?

(...and how can even $450 be justified??? )
