I'd say so!

Also, unlocking/opening the back hatch without car battery power is impossible! (as me how I know and why I no longer keep my owner's manual in the back hatch. meh...)

Locking the vehicle
If you can no longer lock the vehicle using the
remote control and you do not have a spare
transmitter battery at hand, please proceed
as follows:
> Open the driver's door.
> Press the central locking switch
( page 84).
The indicator lamp on central locking
switch 1 comes on, when the starter switch
is in position 1.
The indicator lamp on central locking
switch 1 flashes, when the starter switch is
in Position 0.
> Remove the key from the starter switch,
take it with you, and close all doors.
The vehicle is now locked and the antitheft
warning system* is armed.
But it still requires the key to be in the ignition to start with... It's for when the fob's battery is dead and we don't have a spare. Without the key in the ignition (either in 1 or 0) the dash lock button doesn't work.

That's not entirely true, but it takes some work, and some planning. The latch assembly where the glass seats against the hatch has a small notch in the drivers side of the "hump". That notch is meant to be cut out (which I've done) and then a special tool can be made to slide into the notch and pop the glass open. The owner's manual has a picture of the tool and basic instructions on making one from a stiff piece of wire. I've not yet made the tool, but plan to in the next week. I know that this is the case in the 2009 owner's manual and model. The notch must be cut out before you need to open the hatch.
