Radio 10 "Loud"

Hi guys and gals. Before I head over to my smart centre to check out other radios, I thought I'd ask here. Can anyone hear a difference in the output on their Radio 10 when switching the "Loud" feature ON or OFF? I've adjusted the bass and treble settings where I want them, but the Loud function doesn't seem to do anything. Is mine defective, or is this just a quirk?

I can't tell the difference either between "Loud" being on or off on my Radio 10. On other radios the loud button boosts the bass and treble at low volume settings but not at medium or high settings. I've never liked the loud feature on other radios so I don't miss this in the smart.

It's on the Radio 9 as well. No difference from what I can tell.

I can hear a difference, but I have upgraded speakers in my doors. I think it sounds worse with it on.

I hate to admit this, but I have a "Loud" feature? Hummmm, guess I have something to do now when I go out for lunch today........

I'll let you know later of my findings.

Operating Instructions > smart Radio 10, page 16, Adjusting the Loudness
Quote:
This function can only be activated in the Radio FM mode and in the CD mode.
Does this means that it won't affect AM & AUX modes? I guess...

"Loudness" is a feature used on many stereo receivers in home audio. It boosts the high and low frequencies. The reason being, human ears have low sensitivity to very high and very low frequencies at low volume. Ever notice how your home audio system sounds flat or not as good at very low volumes, but comes alive when you turn it up? Then you have experienced the effects of the Fletcher-Munsen Curve. If you have a subwoofer in you Fortwo, you should notice more bass, when the Loudness feature is turned on, without the sub, you may not notice anything. Loudness features aren't needed in automobiles because the ambient noise levels are too high. I leave it off.

So we seem to have a split opinion here. Hmm. For those of you who can hear a difference, what bass and treble settings are you using, and is this while listening to a CD?

I have the OEM sub and Pioneer Speakers in mine. With my settings I think I have Bass at 1-2 and the treble at 1. I listen to R&B/Hip-Hop on occasion (Think of the smart as a Ghetto Blaster) and I have plenty of bass to work with. IMO

But can you hear any difference with Loudness On versus Loudness Off?
