Radio 10 Radio Text??

I was looking over my 09's Radio 10 manual and I noticed it says on PG 10, in the Menu Assignment section under "In Radio Mode"

"In radio mode, there are two menu levels. The first menu level contains the following items:
*LOUDNESS ON/OFF (PAGE 13)
*RADIO TXT ON/OFF" <--- My Radio 10 doesn't appear to have this! I can't find anything else in the manual about it, can anyone assist me here?

Have you looked at the asterisks (*) on the bullet items where it lists the features? At the bottom of the page, the asterisk is explained: not on North American models.

I definitely don't get why they would not do it on NA models. Heck, radio stations are broadcasting it.

It's probably an oversight in the manual to not include the asterisks... this same thing was discussed when the '08s first hit the roads here. The Radio 10 does not support RDS functionality in the US.

Which just doesn't make any sense, I mean.. My dad's 1996 Audi A6 has RDS Feed, the smart is 13 years newer, has a good display for it, and its supported elsewhere... Just weird.

RDS is probably different here than in Europe. Darned incompatible standards! 70-80% of the Smart market is not in the US so the Radio10 would be tailored to be 100% functional in those markets but simply "functional" here.

Rds...it's not for everyone...

Love to know the reason we were denied RDS in the US.
I know the regular speedometer display is minimalist, so I suppose they carried on the tradition over to the radio. ...Sarcasm at its finest.

It just makes me feel that as a US owner... we are not important. HD radio and Satellite are offering displays with information. Regular radio stations are now all adding RDS, also because of competition. It could be that is one of the contributing reasons, albeit a small one perhaps, that borderline owners sold their smarts at a low mileage after reading the manual and also realizing that they were duped in that respect. I personally answered some with the bad news that a trip to the dealer was not needed. That did not sit well.

Slightly on the same subject, but I bought a real CD (you remember those, the flat things that go in the slot in the radio) and it actually has text on it the radio displays with no setting changes. Only CD that does it unfortunately.

MP3 coded CD's also show track, title or artist info depending upon the menu selection. Since I found that out, I've burned some MP3 discs with nice genre selections; blues, jazz, new age, classic rock, etc. Can load a bunch of MP3s onto one disc. . . fun~!
