Our radio comes on every time the key is turned on, whether the radio was left turned off or not. It is annoying.

I am assuming nobody has yet received the separate radio operating instructions????

The Following is from page 143 of the 451 full owners manual

"The following pages contain a brief descrip
tion of the audio systems available for the
coupé and cabrio.
The devices are described with their full
complement of equipment, including radio
mode and CD changer* mode. The description
for your individual equipment specification
applies.
Please refer to the separate operating
instructions for detailed functions."

If it helps in sleuthing, the radio shares its power source with the air conditioning system, exterior mirror adjustment, windshield washer pump, seat heating, and the gear selector lever control unit.

Are we talking Radio 9 or Radio 10 or both?

I think it's a feature, just like the automagical clutch.

Many exotics have radios that turn themselves on too. I didn't think I'd like it at first, but now I see how much effort I'm saving by not having to push the power button. I think this feature improves fuel economy too, by allowing me to start driving sooner instead if idling while turning on the radio.

Garage
Here's how mine works

Premium Audio System.

Mine comes up in the same state it was in when the car was turned off. i.e.,

System ON or OFF

Radio, CD or AUX selected.

I definitely have the radio instruction book. I've just not had a chance to sit down with it yet. I'm certain this must be a feature that can be turned off.

Yikes.
I just read the entire Radio9 manual. Apparently, the radio is designed to come on when the car starts up. Period. I could not find any instructions for turning it off.
This is really annoying me. Since I listen to the iPod a lot in the car, I will just leave it in AUX mode. That way, when the car comes on, the radio will as well, but it won't tune to a radio station.

Another way is simply to turn the volume all the way down when you shut the radio off, that way at least it will be silent upon car start. I'm lucky that it doesn't bother me, I don't mind just turning it off or muting it after starting the car if I don't want to hear it.
