Radio Turns On When Starting

We have owned the smart for one week. How does one keep the radio turned off all of the time? We are not "radio people", and do not want the radio to AUTO TURN ON every time we start. Is there something to program so that it does NOT turn on? (other than keeping the volume at zero). Thanks.

I found this.

If you do not want the radio to come on when you start up- heres what you have to do... Turn the key off, the radio is now silent, now push the on-off button-the radio is playing. Now push the on-off button again, radio is now silent and will not come on when you start the car. If you do not play the radio the next time you start it, the radio will stay off. If you play the radio while you drive, then you must repeat the process.

It is from another post. I don't know if it will work. I don't know how to link to the other post but if you will click on the word "search" at the top of the page and enter "radio problems" I think it will take you to the page.

I emailed my dealer with this same issue and got this reply: "We are aware of this issue and are addressing it with technical assistance. Some times it does that and other times it wont. I will let you know if there are any updates that we find out as soon as that time comes."

Hopefully, if and when they find a fix for this they'll automatically apply it when we bring the cars in for service.

Do you turn off your radio before you turn off the ignition?

I set mine on AUX so when it comes on, there is no sound/music involved. I then just turn it off until I'm ready for some music.

Maybe this is too simple?

I just set the volume to "0" unless I want to listen to the radio
