They are using that resurch to make constant improvements. Right now they are collecting Vin Numbers of cars that have that random beeping noise when you turn off the car so they can fix that bug. This is a computer controled car, is its not programed to its best you may be missing out on things.

And Godfather, you may be missing out on a New Larger battery by not taking advantage of the upgrade.

Not eligible for a new battery, and have not had any problems that are worth an hour and a half drive to the dealer. (A squirt of lubricant here or there does not constitute a problem) All of the "overmaintenence" called for by Daimler/smart is either unnecessary, (except to the dealer's bottom line) or can be performed in my own driveway. This car isn't made of crystal glass, and it's not going to break just because it's being driven. And those of us who choose to add bits and pieces that are not out of the smart playbook ASSUME THE RISK of using those parts. (Got that, Jwight?) The sky isn't falling...........

Hey forest, my car had a random beep once, on the way back from the Dells. Who do I call to report this isolated incident?

All Ball beeps every so often when I shut off the engine and remove the key and open the door, almost as if the lights have been left on or the key is still in the ignition. It's not a big deal to me, but I didn't realise that it was a widespread issue and never mentioned it to my smart centre. Perhaps there will be a fix soon?

The beep they are trying to track is when you shut off your car and it beeps like you lights are on but they are not. Turn the key on and off and it goes away. Not a big deal but germany wants reports of how offten it happens, Let your service tech know so he can add it to his repert.

I think the dealers should offer custom reprogramming for our smarts... I would take the creep feature out and perhaps play with the torque curve to make it flatter across the first 3 gears. heck I'm sure they could give you an options list and you pay according to how many options you tweak. the car is so fly by wire that you could really make it a hyper miler one month and a little sprinter the next!

I thought it was saimple to recreate the beeping problem: extract the key in the same motion you use to turn the engine off. By not pausing, the computer doesn't have a chance to properly complete whatever it is it needs to do. This beeping is always solved by putting the key back in, turning the electricity on, back off, and removing the key after more than a small fraction of a second pause.
