Rear carpet padding?

Has anyone else noticed horizontal "cracks" forming in the foam on the back side of the carpet? Probably doesn't make much difference, but I would have thought it would be flexible enough not to crack, especially with only 6000 miles on the car.

Also, there seems no way of replacing just the rear section without replacing the entire carpet front to back.

Huh, I haven't noticed it but that carpet foam goes through some pretty harsh conditions. I wouldn't worry about it until the foam crumbles away.

I put one of those silver mylar windshield screens under mine, cut way down on the heat.

Mine has not cracked yet. I have made sure to be careful when lifting it up to only flex it at the pre-cut point.

I installed the cargo net in mine - which involved drilling holes in the carpeted piece. The set includes some absurdly small washers that I was afraid would pull through, so I went to Home Depot and picked up some larger washers, rubber end caps for the bolts. I used an exacto knife and spoon to cut out the foam where the screws for the nets go in, and was able to put them back in place to hide that stuff.
