Rear window/door latch?

I have been messing with this for a while but I think I understand what is happening.

When I open the back window, it doesn't always close and latch which leaves the inside light on. It seems to happen more in colder weather, like below 20F. I have found that when this happens, if I open the rear tailgate, then close it and shut the window, it works fine. There are no squeaks or rattles and it doesn't leak water during car washes or rain. I am due for the 10,000 mile checkup so I'll mention it to the dealer but just wonder if anyone else has had this happen??

I've had this happen a couple of times. Both times in very cold temps (<20).
First was arriving at the airport parking lot, after midnight, after a delayed flight, after a snowstorm.
The glass wouldn't latch to save my life. Even after slamming it harder that was reasonable. I re-opened the tailgate and firmly slammed it. After that the glass latched normally.
Another time it happened in my garage on the way to work. After opening the gate and closing it, the glass latched normally. I sprayed the area down with WD-40 and it hasn't happened since.

Ok, I took it in for the 10,000 mile checkup, They lubricated the release cable and it works 100 times better. Now 2 months later, I have noticed a water leak. The rear compartment 'shelf' I made up, has had water standing on it after the last 2 rain storms. They were pretty heavy but I didn't see where the gasket was bad. I called the Dealer and they want to see it. I'll be heading up Monday Morning. I don't believe the leak is related to the latch as the gasket looks like it would take a lot of water to flood over it.
