Buy a civic SI and enjoy a pathetic 32 mpg.
I had a Smart cdi and (15% town/85% autobahn @ 60mph) averaged 107 mpg at best. AFTER breaking the damn thing in.
Don't be fooled by these D*^b A$$ Reviews. Stick to your guns. Drive like you have a little time. and get over 50mpg!

BobbyBRD is correct. This is applicable to every "Smart" car, both 450 & 451, Pure, Passion and Cabrio.
You have no way of knowing how your Smart was driven before you drove it home. I am speaking of how was it driven prior to your taking delivery; at the factory, in the storage yards, onto and off car carriers, ships, docks and dealer. I'll bet no one prior to you took the same care as you have since accepting delivery. (New, Used, Orphan, Ebay etc.)
You now have the opportunity to have a rebirth of your car..... and at NO COST what so ever.
All you have to do is disconnect the cable(either + or-) from the battery post (10mm wrench, just loosen the terminal nut), leave it disconnected for a few minutes (5 minutes is fine). Reconnect the cable to the post ....... That's it !
Your baby is reborn and virgin again to the world. It doesn't, know/remember, any, father/mother, other than you
ONE IMPORTANT caveat for 450models I don't know if this applies to 451s
If you have a factory radio, make sure it is set to "CODE" NOT "SAFE" BEFORE you disconnect the battery cable. When it is set to "CODE" you can disconnect and reconnect the battery. This is an important thing to know anyway.
In this case "SAFE" means, if your radio is ,in any way, disconnected from the battery, it becomes a 'paperweight' until the code is reentered.. Your "Radio Identity Card" (comes with the carhas the code number to reactivate the radio.
Your manual instructs how to change the radio from "SAFE" to "CODE"
I highly recommend this computer reset to EVERYONE who hasn't already done so.
Problem-questions... PM me with your phone number. I will get back to you.
