I asked the question at my dealer. They say that if you install a remote start (I wanted one, too) that it will void the warranty.

Probably the same reason they don't offer cruise control - to keep the cost down. Also not sure if any of the aftermarket systems have been validated for the 451 models. If you really want one, send smartusa an e-mail and ask them why it's not offered.

I can't get one for any manual car I own. What you can get is an axillary heater with an optional timer. cheap it is not.

Can only void issues related to the ignition, All other parts would still have to be covered.

Why ignition? as I understand it is the possibility of starting in gear and an unmaned craft now moving through...

remote start in a manual transmission car just sounds like a bad idea.

It's been done in Canada

If you go to the Club Smart Car site in Canada, they have quite a few posts about a dealer that is installing remote starts on the 2008 smart cars, so obviously, it can be done...it's probably not any different than when you first start the car in the Park setting. If you really want it and need it, I'm pretty sure you can 'get 'r done'.. Now, as far as warranty stuff, I think that will be decided if you have any issues that the dealers suspects were caused by the addition of that device but I agree that you may have far more 'legal rights' than dealerships are wanting us to believe when they 'threaten' with the voiding warranty comments, but then I'm not an attorney, so I may not know what I'm talking about.
