I am wondering why people are so worried about the alternator in these cars? I was asked this same question last weekend at a car show I attended (although the guy asking was definitely on the shallow end of the gene pool

). I'm pretty sure these things run a Denso alternator, which has proven itself to be one of the most reliable brands there is. I've been driving over 20 years, and last year I finally had to change my first alternator, it was in my 1983 truck with 140K miles on it, I just wore out the brushes. Have others really had that much trouble with alternators to warrant this?
