When I read this post that was the only thing I was worried about. Unlike most vehicles the smart does not have a plastic/rubber trim around the glass or frame. So if the tech slips or is not careful they can easily damage the paint around the glass.

The tool that made the mark was the tool they use to cut the urethane seal. I was wrong so much in saying it was pry marks. The marks were left from the tool making contact with the pillar as they moved along the window cutting the seal. This was the only issue I had other than that they did a great job.

I went to pick up my 2009 smart fortwo cabriolet today after a windshield replacement. Mine has the rain/headlight sensor. When I examined the repair, the sensor was rotated about 5 or 10 degrees and the wires, rather than running up to the cutout above the mirror, were going underneath the plastic about an inch away from that. The sensor had obvious air gaps in the gel, like they had dapped the gel on in about five or six spots rather than coating it uniformly.

In addition, the dealer refused to reset the service indicator because I did my own 10K service (I was willing to pay them to do the reset). They also failed to do the Virginia inspection on the car.

The work was done by All American Auto glass at the Smart Center of Tyson's Corner, where the car remains. I've called Progressive and told them to withhold payment until I am satisfied with the repair. I'm hopeful that I will get a satisfactory repair on Monday, but I'm a bit concerned right now.

Urethane is used to glue the windshield to the vehicle's frame just like all modern cars are. The installer is suppose to cut the old windshield out but if he or she isn't careful the tool can scrape the paint off the body and.. that's just poor workmanship. I own an auto body and mechanic shop and we have a guy that has been replacing windshields for us for the last 20+ years and he's the best around here.

I have had my windshield on another car delaminate from the car... but the fault wasn't the urethane or the installer, the urethane was stuck on the car but was peeling from the windshield. Basically the "black" etched part of the windshield was at fault and this was a PPG windshield, aftermarket oem replacement. Very typical as some insurance wont give you a factory windshield when the aftermarket one is suppose to be just as good, except when they don't "stick" then.. that becomes an issue, thank god that it isn't a big percentage though but it has happened to my own personal vehicle, but since it's the front windshield, the air is pushing against it and u can usually hear a hizzing or whissing sound if you drive fast enough.. then if u push against the windshield near the edge you can see that you can push it out lol..

I am just surprised how many people on here needed to get windshield replacements? How do you end up being in a situation where you need to do this? I've went through a hell lot of tires in the last few years (or at least requiring a patch job) but a windshield?

One summer I went through 3 windshields on my car due to rocks on one of the major highways in downtown Minneapolis. Windshields on my VW Fox were $600 each. The Insurance company said one more windshield and we are scraping the car.... (they can't do that) The car wasn't worth a whole lot, 12 yrs old and 300K miles on it. It was a tough old crate though.

If I had to go through 3 or 4 windshields I'd put the polycarbonate material on the front. At least it doesn't shatter...just craze

Developed a large crack driving from CT to AZ. My insurance, Geico, sent me to safelite in Tucson and they did a great job the day after I contacted them. My cost was 0. Let the fun begin and hope it does not crack again on the way back to CT
