Replacing a key

Losing a key meant a trip to the local hardware store to buy a new blank and get it cut for a few bucks. Don't lose your smart key it will cost you. the metal blanks have to be replaced as a pair, than the transmitter portion and then (I got charged an hour labor) So just over $300. to replace a key.
Smart has to verify the vin and send an authorization code to get everything to work, so you are tied to the dealer to do this.
Had I just plunked down half a mil for my Maybach to insure the the neighbors knew I was in a position to squander some dough would be one thing....

A word to the wise .... Alternate keys every six months or less. Or at least use your other key (all functions) several times, every six months or so.

The EEPROM memory needs to be refreshed as inactivity causes loss of memory. (No remote memory..... no remote functions).

If you lose your old key, you get no 'Nukey'. (Not much opportunity to use that line).

Remember; "Ignorance is bliss" ....... "And bliss is expensive".

it's about the same for anything today. we have Mopar keys that have the remote built-in and they can cost up to $150 and then you must have the service department program them for you to the tune of about $82.00.

ALSO if you lose only 1 key and you want to replace it, you must have ALL OTHER KEYS with the new one when programming or the others will no longer function.
