the roof coming unglued

well got sick and tired of waiting for the call from dallas smart called today @ 5:12pm the service advisor checked on the roof and guess what it is in stock and ready for me to drop off and get my roof replaced. i wonder how many more days it would of took her to call me and tell me the roof is in? maybe never!!! waiting for the service manager to call me back. there are going to give me a loaner and replace the lt door that has weird lines in it.

Mine was doing the same thing on the passenger side. I didn't know it was happening until I took it through a carwash and the blowdry function blew a bunch of water onto my seat.
I called Smartusa and had them call my closest dealer. I drove the 2 hours yesterday to drop it off for repair. It's a pain to have to get something like this repaired on such a new car! It was manufactured in January 08'. It was not part of the 43 car recall for roof delaminating.

Okay, so I've had my roof reglued by the dealer. Everything went smoothly and it seems to be fine but I have noticed that since it was repaired, the roof now creaks and squeaks. I don't recall it doing this beforehand. Has anyone else found this to be the case? My dealer used the same roof and not a replacement.

Hi there. I am a new member and must apologize to John H of Portland for being possibly a bit difficult. I was responding to the paint delam problem and should have been here. Anyway,I too have an issue with the plexi or what ever lifting. It has come away on the right front corner to about 8 inches rear of the corner. As this car was declared a write off at 4000km,the repair is on my dime. The fix is to remove the roof and reglue it at a cost of about $200. I was going to unload on the poor guy at MB but thought better of it. The point is that if you buy a write off no matter how minor the damage, and mine was minimal, there is no warrantee and no recalls. I paid $900. to repair the stuck shifter. There, I feel better. And JohnH, I will try to follow the proper threads, whatever they are.

I'm sorry if I came across harsh, that wasn't my intent. Please don't feel you had to apologize, but the gesture is appreciated.

There's a lot of information here on the boards and while it is helpful for people to scan through the more recent titles in applicable categories while reasearching a problem, it's easy to miss things that might apply. Those of us who spend way to much time on the forum can point you to the right place pretty quickly which I tried to do.

My only suggestion might be to read through a complete thread before posting if you think it might apply to you; the discussion about the recall was reasonably detailed. If you didn't post there, however, and didn't find this thread on your own, keeping quiet wouldn't have helped you at all!

You are a welcome addition to these forums (whether you feel like a luddite or not). We share a very strong connection, all of us here: the enjoyment of our Smart cars!
