Scangauge 3 suggestions

1) Battery backup to allow reading data when detached from OBDII port.
2) USB port for copying data to PC, with at least rudimentary software
(I'm manually transcribing from my car journal to MS Excel)
3) 7-10 day memory
4) Calendar, for identifying data from #3

These additions would doubtlessly increase the price. I'm willing to pay.

If you are willing to pay more then give Kiwi a try.

I would love to have one, but I can't afford it.

Wow, lots of pretty colors, animations and a 'game' ... for $299.
I read most of the owner's manual from the site. It doesn't appear to address my suggestions for the Scangauge though.
The USB appears to be used only to upload custom animations for the 'how you're doing' screen (happy, happy joy joy), no mention of any way to transfer data from Kiwi to PC.
Although it keeps a record (no mention of how long a record), apparently the data is only available in bar graph format on the Kiwi's display.
No mention of it having its own power supply. Mention is made of connecting via USB to a notebook to upload custom animations.

Yeah, it looks pretty nice. But, it doesn't seem to fill ANY of my suggestions. Why can't either of these manufacturers accomodate a button cell battery and allow a PC to query the device? Oh well. Thanks for the tip IcePlanet! That Kiwi is tempting anyway.

If you are willing to pay A LOT more, give DashDaq a try. It records data to a SD card. DashDAQ Series II - customizable OBD2 gauges, data logging, dianostics, and GPS Navigation

If the Dash DAQ did 800x480 resolution, I probably would have owned one by now. I can't stand 480x272!

Just my .02 here, but I've played with the SG for almost a month now, courtesy of Karl Roth. For me, it's display is too small and the various options are all buried in menus (much like many digital cameras) so making changes is labor intensive. Needs a bigger box, more buttons for specific functions, plus all of the things mentioned by NCC1701.

Personally, I'm still looking for an economy gauge that should work as well, although it won't supply all the various bits of data the SG does.

Another Scangauge 3 suggestion: Ability to set the tank size in fractions of gallons instead of just gallons.

Assuming that the ScanGauge III will have the same type of display that the II has, I would like to see more options for Gauge display. Four is simply not enough. Perhaps a number of "pages" of gauges could be configured, and then the ScanGauge could cycle through these pages at some rate (say changing every few seconds.)
