Scangauge and clearing smart scan codes

Has anyone used scanguage to clear codes on the smart? When I press clear the screen goes blank and the codes still remain. What is the problem?

Here are the procedures for clearing codes on the smart with a scangauge II:

Engine off
Ignition on
shifter in Neutral position
press red circle on scangaugeII
then scan for codes on the right it will ask clear codes press yes and you are done.
