Smart 2.0 Update Coming for 2008 Model Year (official program name: “smart 2.0 Check

All 2008 Smart Owners will be getting a letter to schedule with their Delivering Dealer (if possible) updates to their 2008 Smart Car. The most important one is the transmission update to the 2009 version. This will upgrade the operating mode to the 2009 model, where you can switch to manual mode by touching the paddles. Left paddle for downshift and Right paddle to upshift, without moving the shifter. Then hold the right paddle for 2 seconds to switch back to Drive. The other updates are depending on the production date/VIN number, there are a total of 9 possible updates.

1. Transmission Update
2. Replacing VECI label
3. New Owner's Manual with Corrections
4. Addendum Card for Owner info change
5. Transmission Operation Explanation Card
6. 42 amp battery to 61 amp battery if the car was equipped with the factory Anti Theft Alarm
7. 2008 Model Shifter greasing
8. 2008 VIN Label Change to make more readable.
9. 2009 Model contact bridge installation for Comfort Package equipped cars.

Let's hope there isn't an issue picking and choosing what we want. New battery, yes, transmission update, no.

It will stop the battery from running down if the auto lamps and wipers are left on when the car is turned off.

I like the sound of the gearbox mods, but I finally have the gearbox trained to shift as I like and I am not sure if those changes are worth having to retrain the gearbox.

I've never thought there was an issue with how my '08 shifts. If you get in the car and drive it mindlessly, it will buck and bang through the gears... if you work with it, it's actually quite rewarding.

And I absolutely despise the pulling paddles to drop to manual mode "feature"... they should put the euro selector lever in my car while they are at it. If it is in D, it needs to stay in D.

Any ETA on when we should expect this? Hmm, guess I'll wait to set up my appt for the first year oil change - might as well have everything done at once.

Oh and anyone know what this refers to?

"3. New Owner's Manual with Corrections"

I don't want to have to look through for the changes
