These is a Mitsubishi one liter turbo version, most of it is identical to the eye as the normally aspirated version we have.

is this engine a zero clearance engine when it comes to timing belts?

I could be wrong, but that looks like a timing chain in the picture. Doesn't answer the zero-clearance question, but hopefully makes zero-clearance less of an issue.

Twin cams opening and closing the 4 valve per cylinder are chain driven

The intake valves are variable timing via an oil pressure actuated adjuster

No belt drive... but yes, if the chain were to break the pistons would smack the open valves

The chain appears to be a duplex, so that helps. Not that the pins are necessarily any bigger in diameter but the load is spread more evenly, as is the wear on the sprockets.

By the way, on the lower rear side of the block in mine, is 3B21, with what looks like a series number underneath.
