Smart Oddities

I have had a couple of weird things happen occasionally with my smart, but they seem totally random so haven't bothered taking to the dealer. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this...

Sometimes when I shut the car off and open the doors, alarms go off and all the lights are lit up. It acts as if the key is still in the ignition, or the headlights are on or something. Have to put key back in to acc and then turn off and pull out again to make it go away. Checked everything... car was in park, headlights off... haven't been able to figure out what causes it.

And then sometimes, when I start the car, the wipers swipe across the windows. Front and back. Double checked the controls and did not have it in auto or anything.... both were in the off position. Just weird.

Sometimes my wipers do the exact same thing! I'm not sure what is going on. I only have 1,000 miles on my passion.

Something on the rain/light puck sensor? Like dew or condensation?
Are your cars in auto wiper and/or light? Just a thought...

I leave my car wiper setting on auto and it autoatically wipes sometimes in the morning. Majority of the time there is dew on the windshield but once it a while it appears to be clean. *shrug* Nothing to be alarmed about in my opinion.

I've experienced the unexplained alarm a few times. It IS like you've opened the door with the keys in the ignition, or a lights on ... type of alarm. I usually leave my windshield wiper in Auto, so I accept it sometimes sweeps on startup (dew, dirt, whatever).

Cabrio, build 6/2008

When I started the car yesterday my Passenger window rolled down all by itself.

Does that count?

Crop circles?

Who designed the electrical system? We're discovering minor poltergeists but they're mostly user errors...

User errors? Perhaps, but what was the error which caused the alarm?

Stop the car, put it in Park, remove key from ignition ... alarm goes off. Rarely, like 2 or 3 times in two months' of ownership. It did seem very strange, but hasn't happened frequently. What was the error in your opinion?
