Jwight. I couldn't find it again in the OM either. Most cars have the device in the same place.

The access appears to be through the cover on the right bulkhead. Standing outside at the tailgate, and looking forward and right, you will see the access door for the right, tail light. Next to it, is a round quarter size cap, ( here's why I say appears") under the cap is a Torx screw that I was unable to remove, as I didn't have the tool.

Next week I'll pick up a set of Torx drivers, Meanwhile, at the meeting this Sat, I will ask the Smart Service guys to show us the drill on reseting this device, And I will post it here.

A2Jack.

Great, thanks! I've heard stories of these things turning off the fuel supply when a car hits a huge bump or a pothole but don't have anything to confirm that. Will be interesting to hear what your service tech says.

«Swerved the car hard left at between 25-30 MPH today and it shut off»

Happened to me on a hard right (screeching tires) last night.

Very unsettling.

Well, Biscayne Blvd South is 5 lanes wide, and it does make a hard right turn south of Flagler because otherwise the five southbound lanes of traffic would crash into 70-story Wachovia Tower.

The tires screeched: not imaginary
The turn is to the right : not imaginary
The engine died and had to be restarted: not imaginary

vwVW12:

Didn't you post this nonsense yesterday and say it was just for entertainment purposes and all imaginary?

Service people claim no knowledge of fuel pump shut off. I believe this gravity device is required by law. to limit fire in case of accident. Anyway here's what's under that panel in the boot.

Can anyone identify these components? A2Jack.

I actually had the engine cut off waiting at intersections a couple of times in the first week I had my smart, and figured out it was related to accidentally touching the key with my hand, because I was reaching for my old car's gear shift.

I don't do that any more.

Better late than never

Sorry I haven't provided an update until now. I took the car in to the dealership last Thursday and they tested it vigorously and were unable to re-create the problem. There are no fault codes. I have been unable to trigger the same problem since the first day. (And I've tried)
