That has been mentioned before. The 'new car hot engine' smell lasts a long time. When you get out of the car, the vent right behind the drivers door gives the engine smell a straight route out and you walk right through it. Most cars with the motor up front, let the smell go out the front of the car and away from you. I still got a whiff even at 10,000 miles.

As for the monitor, if it detects an excessive load, does it automaticly shut down or do you need to disconnect?? Manually disconnecting the battery terminal takes a bit of time and if things are melting, you don't have much time to protect components. -just interested in how it works-

Being right near that exhaust I'm with the idea of something being left on the muffler or around the cat. On my old Ford Escort I had a piece of cardboard wedge itself between the frame and exhaust once I stopped it caught fire. Luckily it was at night and I grabbed a garden hose the moment I saw flickering light letting me know the car was on fire and put it out.

The power lose, did it happen on a dirt road or a road where traction was lost and the computer cut off the fuel? I have that happen all the time, discouraging but a feature of the car.

I hope the cause is figured out soon. Please keep us updated on the outcome.

The car had the problem on pavement, he had called me last week to check the forums to see if anyone else had experienced it. He call me yesterday from the dealer to check the forum again as they had no answer for him. There was no oil change done yesterday as the car is at 15,000 miles, just the 2.0 and the VIN number upgrades. It's being tow in for service Monday, I'll post the results when I find out.

Another example of cell phone cameras as a waste of time. What damage, where? All I could see was blur.

Have a hard time trying to see what would have caused that. On that side of the engine there is just not that much items that could generate enough heat to catch that foam padding on fire.

Also what are those markings on the rear engine cover? Does look like markings from a wrecking yard.

Would be very interested in hearing more about his case.

The markings are the oil drain plug wrench size and the amount of oil to refill.
