Finally got around to reading the 2009 smart brochure and found this on page 25 under standard equipment:
7. Multifunction display: ..."From a level of 1.3 gal the remaining fuel is indicated to an accuracy of 0.13 gal."
The first part of that sentence I interpret to mean the 1.3 gal reserve is included in the 8.7 total tank capacity, as opposed to being in addition to the 8.7 gal. YMMV.
8.7 - 1.3 = 7.4 gallons .... so when we get to 0.0 on fuel gauge shouldn't it take 7.4 gallons to fill the car???? or is the reserve gauge measuring the the 1.3 gallons.
...for the first time I saw the gauge go down enough to show me .4 gal left...
...with one click of the pump it registered 8.18 at the pump...
...like any other gauge it's only as accurate as the person reading it..
