Speedy Oil Change Helper

I've used these on my Subaru cars for years with never ever any problems. - http://www.quickoildrainvalve.com/. I really would like to use one on the smart I have coming.

However, I need the help of current new smart owners. Does the oil drain reside at the side of the oil pan or on the bottom? Does anyone know the mm of the oil plug threads? Mitsubishi runs 14mm and MB runs 14mm too. So, I may have the answer to the mm question, unless the smart has something altogether different.

Also there is an adapter if the plug area has a recessed drain plug port. I think also there could be, possibly, a problem if the drain is at the bottom of the oil pan and not the side.

So, can you current owners help me to see if this is worth considering?

Many thanks to one and all.

Unless you plan to eliminate the 'filtered' plug...

...these wouldn't work. The smarts come with this one:

Their oil drained soon. I want to make up a dozen or so of the copper gaskets that DON'T come with the filter like most OEM oil filters (well, Honda's anyway) and I need the OD and ID of the gasket. Can anyone provide that for me? I didn't think of measuring it when I changed my own oil recently and I want to save myself the cost of having to buy such a simple part.

Is it worth it?
The extra money for a start for something tha you should only be using about once a year. The smaller port will slow down oil draining meaning you are more likely to leave deposits in the engine.

Slight Sidestep

What is the purpose of the tubular screen on the drain plug? Is it to capture crud and position it near the drain hole so it is flushed away when the oil is drained?

My vote and money bet are on Karl's opinion.

1. The filter extends up higher than the oil level when full.
2. Easily cleanable when changing oil
3. Lightens the load on the oil filter.
4. lowers the chance of failure of the oil pump.

gasket size

If you find the size of the copper gasket, go to germanautoparts dot com. They sell them for VW's for $0.11 each. They are 14x20 mm. Same size as Hyundai and Kia. Hardly worth the effort to try to make them. Some stealerships charge a buck a piece for them. I buy 20 at a time.
