SRS Light on

Can anybdy tell me about this?Dealer removed seat to check shifter recall. Now the SRS light is on. Can this be reset without returning car to dealership? It is 250 miles one-way to the dealership. Has anybody seen this? I do have a scan gauge. Reads no codes so nothing to reset there. Anybody know the next step?

My car had the same problem and no codes showed up on my scangauge either. I had to take the car in to the dealer and (I was told) that they removed the ground strap on the seatbelt sensor, reset the computer and then re-attached the ground. That was a few weeks ago and everything has been working OK ever since. Hate to tell you this but it only took about 10 minutes to complete the work and I had to drive 125 miles each way to get it corrected.

SRS Light on

When you say reset the computer is this just disconnecting battery and waiting for 10-15 minutes? Did they happen to say where the ground strap is actually located? I can do these things myself and save the long drive. Thanks for the advice

Ground strap is on the right front floorboard next to the battery

Not seeing what they really did to the car... I don't know if removing the gound reset the computer or they did it through the OBDII connection in the car. I was also asked about my scangauge at the same time thinking that it may have been a cause also, but it had been on the car for a few weeks before my SRS light came on.

Good luck, please give an update if just removing the gound resets the computer, it could save us a few trips to the dealer in the future.

The Seat-belt Restraint System (SRS) in these cars is an active system that does not simply "lock" in an acident...under certain conditions it actually retracts and pulls you back into the seat.... The actuator is damned expensive and a one time fire item...

Let a smart dealer make the fix is my advice until I know more about the system.

I seem to think we have had one or more members already post about the SRS light and the result was a new retractor installed....

I think the SRS is Supplemental-Restraint-System, it includes air-bags, seat-belts, and etc.

Yea was early, and senior moment (CRS?) was fuzzing the acronym... and it help not that the six different brands I work with all use a similar acronym for same basic system but each have different ways to spell out the full name...

You are correct, and good catch.... the belt actuator is only part of the system and the SRS light could be a lot of things....

I lost the link a while back but there is a Mercedes web site for emergency service folks to access (free for any one) that has excellent advice on how to safely extract someone from any crashed Mercedes vehicle...

They do a very good job of technical info on all of the explosive devices, triggers, and where items are located to disarm....

Most of us do not need this info, but at least I learned about each of the sub systems, how they are triggered, and where to look for the control devices...

If I can ever find the site again I will post a link .....

Not much info there helps with this particular SRS light on problem...

I just wanted to get a caution in that it is a complicated and potentially dangerous system to be DIY troubleshoot and fixing...

I have taken my Smart for a service, it had been working fine prior to the service. I take my car from the service and 2 days later, without nothing ever happening, my SRS is on. What shall i do?
