When this happened on my smart, a tech had disconnected an air bag sensor with the ignition "on". This triggered the SRS code. After calling the delarship, I was told the car was unsafe to drive and PAG towed the car to the dealer. The service manager told me when the SRS is activated, it inhibits operation of the safety systems on the car. I would call the dealer for advice.

The other day my SRS light came on at 5300 miles. I brought the car to the dealership that just opened in New Orleans, the car was purchased in Houston. I was told that the seat-belt tensioner was bad. Smart rented a car for me saying that the new part would be in the following day but, it's been two day's with no news of the repair. I'm just guessing that after putting the new part in the light remained lit and they are scracthing their head's trying to figure out what to do next? More to follow!

The follow up. The seat-belt tensioner was replaced. The rental from Smart was returned and I just drove 160 miles with my Smart back to the house with the SRS light remaining off. However, I no longer get the ding ding ding when my seat-belt is disconnected, only the light. I'm not sure if that's good or bad yet?

Let a smart dealer make the fix is my advice until I know more about the system.

I seem to think we have had one or more members already post about the SRS light and the result was a new retractor installed....
Had the driver side replaced out of warranty $485.00 parts & labor asked about getting the old part and was told it had to go back to Smart because it could go off.
