Start the car when key battery is dead

Same situation if you want remote start put on your smart; one of the keys must be sacrificed as it's buried behind the dash somewhere so the remote start system will work.

I am still uncomfortable locking the car with just the remote. In my Mazda I have to wait until all other doors are closed, push the lock down, and hold the handle up while closing the door. It seems too easy now. I don't trust it.

So I was almost ready to go buy an extra battery to carry in the car as a spare just in case my key battery went dead. Decided to go try key "without" battery in the key...car starts fine! I do not have the the alarm system on my car.

Key Fob Will Not De-activate Immobilizer , I have changed the battery in the key fob, still not working. The car battery is fully charged . . . any one no what to try next ?

And for the record, a CR2016 button battery is 20mm (2.0 cm) in diameter, and 1.6mm thick.

Try the other key?

I just realized you aren't clear. Does the car start and not leave park or does the car not start?

Do you have gas [sorry: petrol] and are you aware of the stuck-in-park issue for an unlubed gearshift (lube performed as part of "2.0 upgrade" maintenance).

The Euro model doesn't have the Dumb-downed "PRND". No need for gearshift lube. Car starts in Neutral only, and Reverse (with engine off) is the same as P.
