Stranded smart (brake shoes)

My daughter drove my 2009 smart passion today, as she backed out of her parking spot the car abruptly stopped and would not go forward or backwards. I used a floor jack to get it out of the middle of the parking lot, and back to a parking spot. With the car in neutral, and the two rear tires off the ground, I grabbed the rear tire to turn it and the passenger rear wheel will not move. Anyone else experience this in their car?

I'm guess'n the ABS has gone bonkers and locked down the right rear drum brake... Try pulling fuse 11 or doing the double push button trick on the dash...

Will do, had it towed to the nearest smart center, so I should hear something on Monday or Tuesday once they diagnose the problem.

My local smart center called and said the parking brake came apart in the rear drum and the parts wedged themselves in between the drum and the brake pads locking the rear wheel. Time frame for repair is one month, since all the parts have to be ordered from Germany. The cost for the rear brake job is estimated to be $1,100. What a deal, maybe they were figuring a month of storage fees also.

Smart Madness might have the parts - and it's a brake job on smart drums, not a Ferrari.

Picked up car and looked at parts that were missing by comparing both left and right rears. Called my local NAPA dealer, they can get all the parts and have them next day, total cost for parts are $105, guess that leaves $995 for labor.

RockAuto carries parts, any mechanic should be able to do the work. That dealer should be reported to smartUSA, F-ING crooks.

Parking brake was actually not the problem, it was the top springs and that little bar that spans between the top of the drum brake pads, apparently it came apart causing the problem. Tow was $159, and smart center diagnostic fee was $150.

If you have the parts it's a pretty easy DIY or any brake shop could do it. Was the smart center guy wearing a mask when he gave you that quote?
