Strange Happening (gear selector)

I had a strange thing happen this morning. Put transmission into reverse, and yes lcd was showing rev, but car would not go into rev. It would try to go, but just wouldn't get there. Sorta felt like it was popping out of gear. I had to run it through the gears and back into park, then it figured out what I wanted. There wasn't the three bars or anything that showed that there was a problem other than not going into gear.
I haven't gotten the upgrade yet. I might have to sooner than I wanted to. Anyone else have a similar experience?

May be some ideas in here: Anybody having problems with tranny engaging?

Might be the clutch issue described in one post.

Other than this, how are things going in Iowa?

I've had it balk a couple times.
Can't remember for sure but I probably did the same thing,
just like you would a manual car that the teeth didn't line up on.
(go back to neutral/park and try again)

Is this trans problem something that should be looked at or is it a one-time thing? Never had any problems before.

Iowa weather is finally getting spring-like. Temps in the upper 60's this week with lots of rain. In fact it's raining right now.

Had what sounds like might be a similar thing happen sometimes, when i took it in they performed the shifter lube (as part of the 2.0 thing I think) and also installed an updated clutch part - part #A 541 250 02 03

In my case it happened more then once though, and it the symptoms were a little different. I'd let them know about it though

Nothing to do with this thread, but I am curious, almost all Westies in Britain have really terrible skin, they flake and the dogs scratch themselves until they bleed, I know a few personally that do this.
Is this a British breeding thing, or are the American Westies the same?
Thanks, Ellis

I have had a similar issue except the LCD wouldn't show "R" yet the reverse lights would be on and I wouldn't be able to go anywhere. Usually turning the car on and off or putting the car back in drive and moving forward slightly would fix this problem.

back on topic...

if you shift quite rapidly it may confuse the brain...same as backing up and selecting D while still moving backwards...
