OK, I'll bite. Is this a smart (which don't have temperature gauges) or some other make?

OK, that makes sense. No idea, other than if it's still reading way off from the actual outside temp it's time for a trip to your dealer. Sounds like a failed sensor to me. Anyone?

On a different forum in a different part of the world on a different subject (engine overheating), it is recently noted that on one reported occasion the instrument panel engine temperature was reading abnormally high. But when an OBD II/ECU reader was applied, it indicated an actually normal temperature.

So ... if the engine coolant temperature electronics and readout might be in error, there is a possibility that the ambient temperature and its readout may also be subject to error.

I had the same problem one day with the up shift arrow missing as well.

I remember that day being really hot in the San Francisco area, and I was washing the Smartie.

I went out for a while (which is when I noticed the up shift arrow not there & the temp reflects the temp inside my garage) after I washed the Smartie. Then I went home; parked in the garage; The next day, everything was fine.

I don't know what exactly happened.
