Eddie: another way is to buy the oil and filter you want, and Walmart will change it for about $20. Chances are they've done a Smart before but you can reiterate that you only want 3 1/2 quarts put in. Top it off yourself later as needed. You can get the oil there but if you want a high end filter you'll need to get it elsewhere. Right now, Advance is having Mobil1&filter sale for $30.

If you use a milk jug, don't let it sit for months or the oil will eat thru the plastic. What a mess!! I now use the large plastic containers that kitty litter come in and resuse them.

I also use big laundry detergent bottles. Always keep couple empty ones in the garage. They have much larger opening and much stronger then a milk jug.

BTW I always buying a 20 Oz plastic bottle of Coke from the Autoparts store along with a oil. By the time oil is stop draining, I usually finish the drink, cut the bottle in half and use it as a funnel. Best funnel in the world. Also cheaper the a real one. :-)

Speaking of Coca-Cola. Just made this one couple of weeks ago. :-)

Changing the oil plug washer?

Hey thanks for the info on which tools I was going to need and the link for the video. Another question just popped up after I have just left the Smart Center Parts Department for something else, they have the filter there for $14, but, then he said that I needed to change the oil plug washer, which they have for $3. How necessary is it to change that little washer?

1) 24mm Socket for Drain Plug
2) adapter so I could use the socket on my socket set. It was bigger than any socket I have ever used around the farm
3) Oil
4) Oil Filter
5) Drip pan to collect the oil. This drip pan seals up and you can take it right back to the same place you purchased the oil.
6) sheet of cardboard to put on the ground to lay on

Watch the Video and all will go well.

Oh, and I needed to cut a chunk of Pipe to create a breaker bar to get that drain plug off. The filter was able to be done by hand.
Be careful of the hot exhaust pipe
2 Days getting all the stuff together. Less than 15 min to do the job.

Oh, Don't lose the drain plug washer when you take it off

And thank you to everyone else for all the extra tips, I do like the one about the laundry detergent bottle and the coke bottle for a funnel.

CubeFX - Love the image, looks great!

You can reuse the washer, even my dealer says that it's not necessary to replace it.

Hmmm, just thought of something else in regards to this oil change chore, is there something that I need to do in order to reset the service wrench?
