(I suspect, although he didn't say, that he might have used the padding from the old bracket on top of the new to double up the isolation.

Sorry that's all I can tell you. BLoomfield is the HQ dealership for Smart and Mark Hovis is the Service Manager there. He's a real good guy. A2Jack

That makes more sense. I spoke with DTAC (smart tech support team) and did confirm that bending the arms out slightly is what they have done to help the problem. The foam padding I have not tried.

Also it is true some of those little valves are just a bit more annoying then others, until the engineers figure a way to mount them lower down by the tank I can not see a way to make the noise go away completely.

The results of the fix were worthwhile, as the tapping sound can no longer be heard either inside the cabin or outside the car.

BTW. Hats off to you and your dealership, we have been reading your posts for months now and you folks are the best. A2Jack.

Has anyone posted pics for this fix? I`d like to know how to quiet the purge valve since it makes my car sound like crap. Where can we get the foam or insulation? Turning up the radio only works for so long! lol

I've been wanting a photo since post #33, two months ago. Pretty please, someone? Although, to be honest, I haven't noticed the tapping as much since my stereo upgrade.

My (09) Tiny Red is sometimes known as The Putt Car because it does sometimes make the putt putt noise when I'm pulling into the garage. Guess I just hear the putt putt more then...

I started my car today for the 1st time since purchasing it. The dealer dropped it off last week. ( 2008 18k miles)It has the same tap tap sound . Hell, if I didn't find this post I would almost think it was a bearing. If anybody could post a picture of where this valve is that would be great.

What tapping?

But really, when I turn my radio completely off with the windows down and the air vents turned down, I can make out faint tapping... I have one of the better behaved ones by the sound of it.

Ok, here is the photo. Very dusty engine as we live on a short dusty road.
Road and PV problem now solved. Purge Valve is in center of pix. (Black with cable going to it.)

One of the problems we had in finding the source of Tat, Tat was the sound was "telegraphed" throughout the engine. IMO just wrapping the out side of the PV will not solve the problem. It needs to be removed/replaced , bracket bent out, and more padding installed.

Insist your dealer fix it right. We have not heard a sound from ours since Mark made the fix. A2Jack

Having trouble seeing the padding in the photo; is it the black stuff under/behind the PV?
