I bought my Smart fortwo a few days ago, and I love the little critter. I just wanted to see if the sounds I hear are normal and others have them.
During cold start and first 10 mins or so of light driving, the engine sounds are louder than when it's warm, idle goes up and down a few dozen RPM ** I'm pretty sure that's normal. It seems to almost threaten to stall when cold. Is that common? (Cold = off overnight, 70-80 degree ambient temp)
At a drive through, approx 15 mins of use... a hissing sound when I let go of the brake to idle forward to the next window. Is this related to clutch control?
Beginning a turn, a clunk sound that I'd equate to something loose in steering. I'm about 70% sure this isn't normal and am tempted to call the dealer.
