Not all smartcenters are affiliated with M-B dealerships...that's the case in Hartford.

The M-B dealership here offers an oil change with up to 8 quarts of Mobil 1 and an original Mercedes oil filter installed for $69.95. If you can't wait you get a loaner. Our Mercedes is the only car I don't do my own oil changes on any more.

On the other hand, the smart is the easiest car to change the oil on; it doesn't even need to be lifted off the ground!

[quote=Suze;194362]Dunerunner - I think your costs weren't really "maintenance", other than the filer and oil, were they?[quote]

Oil and filter every 3000 mi. adds up. I did the initial change at 500 mi. and another at 1000 mi., then oil and filter every 3000 mi thereafter. I had to buy tools to do the work and that adds to the cost initially.

We hope you truly appreciate the harm you are doing to the environment by changing the oil 5 more times per year than the manufacturer recommends. May all that old oil be dumped somewhere you have to live with it, daily.

It drove onto the usual bay no problem, it was a bit short there, though. They had the correct filter in stock and lots of Mobil 1 around.

The oil and filter are recycled. Just think of the energy saved in not having to re-crack the synthetic oil for reuse. Then there is the longevity of the engine meaning I don't have to buy a new car as soon saving even more in energy and pollution through keeping my vehicle in good repair. We walk a line of inevitable trade offs when we operate an internal combustion vehicle.

Thanks in advance for responses.
Since I was attracted top smart for its economy, I had the same question. I found a wide variety of costs posted here - apparently due to variability among dealers in what they charge for scheduled maintenance.

I suggest that you check with your local dealer(s) if you want the most accurate information.

Just checked with my Dealer in Milwaukee. Quoted me $125 for the 10K Service. Oil, Filter, Cabin Filter, Brake check and other checks listed in the Manual. I asked what it would take to rotate the tires because of the slant on the tires. He suggested on ly the front tires be reotated on the rims and quoted me $10 per. So I should get out of their for $145 and good for another 10K

Now the broken panel I have to replace is going to cost me another $160 if I do it myself. They charge $99 and Hr for labor and I fig I could do this myself, Ill just buy some extra clips to be safe.
