Twice I had a misfiring just after topping off fuel.
I read on this forum that this happen due to the Carbon canister behind the tank.
Is that a proven fact, what is it exactly?
And why there is no warning in the owner book?
There is a label on the fuel tank opening indicating "Do not topp off"... no more...
this doesn't exist on European smart cars.. Do they have or not the carbon canister?
The carbon canister is part of the USA emissions control. It may not exist in Europe... I'm not sure. The carbon absorbs the vapors from the fuel tank instead of venting outside.
If the canister is full of liquid fuel, the vapor pressure isn't what the engine expects and that can cause a misfire.
The carbon cannister vapor recovery system holds VAPORISED fuel from the tank/filler, which gets sucked into the intake manifold, to be burned by the engine, instead of being vented to the atmosphere.
