TPMS not usable on new wheel?

I found the following note in the Smart Car Maintenance Manual page 67. Does this mean you cannot transfer the TPM sensors to new wheels?

i
Note

A manual restart must be performed each time the
tire inflation pressure is changed and when a
wheel, wheel sensor or the TPM [RDK] control unit
is replaced.
If the nut on the valve element of a wheel sensor is
loosened, all components of the valve element
must be replaced.
See the Workshop Information System (WIS) for
further instructions and information.

When TireRack moved my OE sensors there was no problem, they do take some specialised tools to dismount and remount, plus an installation kit of some sort. My local Sears removed my sensors when I sold my OE wheels for the Rials.

Since getting my wheels stripped and painted didn't involve new TPMS sensors, I'd hazard a guess that the loose nut during operation could cause damage. Removing and replacing should be fine though the sensors are fragile. From a security standpoint, having your Smart Center handle the TPMS sensors could be the difference of a free replacement for one they break or a real hassle dealing with an independent tire store who doesn't have / can't get the sensors and break one anyway.

IN my opinion the sensors are useless...
I wonder how you can turn off the light on the dashboard ... there is a fuse you can take out?

There is no any special tools required to remove or install the TPMS sensors. Just deep metric socket and the ratchet wrench. Only special tool is torque wrench to install them back @ 8nm.

I even reused all the washers. Air leak /trouble free for more then a year.

You can have the function turned off by your Smart Center next time you're in for service. Others have just added black tape.

I've had the TPMS successfully warn me of an issue on two occasions: when I had a loose valve stem and when I got a nail in my tire, both resulting in slow leaks. I considered the warning very helpful!

The next time I am going to have the TPMS switched to another wheel, or other related work at an independent dealer, I will first have them first check my warning light to verify that there are no TPMS problems prior to them working on it and note it on the work order. I had this problem and the repair person said the TPMS must have been already broken. "How do I know your warning light was not on already." This major tire chain store did agree to replace the broken TPMS for free, but it was an effort on my part. Out of only two TPMS devices switched, they broke one.

Just have the repair center verify that your light is NOT on when you hand th keys to them. If it's on afterwards and it doesn't reset, THEN you (or they) have a problem.

The nuts are a special one time use nut. they are locknut that will only lock once. you can reuse them but the locknut part only works the first time. So I am told....
