I don't understand why my pin won't always engage in the locking groove of the selector drum? It seems at slow speeds my transmission sometimes fails to maintain the selected gear as though it can't make up it's mind to upshift or down shift (in automatic mode). This causes the car to really kick until it can pick the right gear. What's up with that?
You're right.. it's not making up its mind, because it's right on the threshold of the shift point. Especially if it's new, < 500 miles, the shifting is a little frustrating for those of us with a light foot. I use manual mode most of the time, but this month have used auto mode more often. After 5k miles, things have loosened up just right so the shift program combines with my own experience and I can predict when it will shift - meaning I can give it more or less throttle (just a touch), and make it auto shift when I want it to.
Work with, not against, the transmission, and you'll be happier. And remember you can switch to manual mode at any speed and command it to hold a gear as long as you need. The car will also go max speed in 4th gear if needed - just don't over rev a cold engine.
My dealer still won't flash my 08 transmission with the 09 program. Yesterday I begged, I pleaded, I groveled, but no go. They said Smart Central Command has still not officially released it. Come on Smart, let my tranny go!

Got the same message from the dealer. He also said it likely wouldn't be covered under warranty if and when it is released for the '08.

They won't do it yet because they can't cover it under the warranty system until smartUSA says so... have alittle more patience, the nationwide program is due to roll out in 30-45 days. I'm sure when it happens it won't be a secret around here.

No problem. I have more patience than Kaiser Permanente.
I begged, I pleaded, I offered a cash bribe, and finally I said I would sign a full waiver of any and all liability if they would please just help me with my problem. I was told that corporate policy would just not allow it. Wait a minute. Are we talking about Kaiser or Smart?
