transmission issues

hello. I have started usng my manual shift paddles. I only have 120 miles on the car. I notice when i move the shifter knob back to automatic so I can go in reverse, the transmission misses, like its in neutral for a few seconds, then will go in reverse. sometimes, it will back up a few feet, act like its in neutral a coup-le seconds, then again go in reverse. I also have the same thing when i shift back to automatic (at a stop), then go to drive in automatic it will do the same missing like its hitting netral a time or two. anyone else have any such issues? any comments or thoughts? thanks, Gene

Reverse on mine is a VERY specific shifter location that while it says "R" it may not actually be locked in. But I'd take it in the dealer since once its in gear it shouldn't be skipping. Also, this tranny is a manual at the core and will act like it at low speeds.

I find the same thing with reverse, but assumed it was just my lack of smooth application of throttle. The clutch doesn't let out as smoothly in reverse, perhaps because of the high gearing, and if I'm hesitant on the accelerator peddle then the clutch disengages and reengages which causes the bucking.

Most often occurs when I'm trying to backup 1-2 feet, as in parallel parking. But I don't think there's anything wrong with the car. Just nowhere as smooth as a fully automatic transmission.

A day-or-so ago, there was a comment that I think was a dealer's opinion that the transmission fluid should be changed fairly early on. This is in the same league as early oil changes to rid the engine of manufacturing detritus. I admit to not have thought about manufacturing gunk in the transmission until now.

But with some other comments here about slow shifting and intermittent "hang ups," I'm thinking that a transmission fluid change at my 500 mile engine oil dump wouldn't be a bad idea; there are things breaking-in there too (and there is no filter). There is a big difference between right-arm power in manually (brachially?) directing shifting rods and forks about and some small servo motor doing the same job - manufacturing gunk could be a player.

Immediate second thought: there are some here who cleave to every word said or not said by smart that would lead an owner to do nothing for a year or 10,000 miles. I'm not that irresponsible towards my vehicles.

Abandoned a poor homeless little orphan.

After waiting for just three days short of a year I advised the smart dealer in Cary, North Carolina that I didn't want to wait any longer for my Black Passion Coupe with the Comfort Package. Cherie has promised me that she will do her best to find it a good home.
