My driver side mirror is very shakey after 25 mph the faster I go the worse it gets. The passenger side mirror is solid as a rock no matter how fast I go. Is there any way I can correct this my self or do I need to go to the dealer?
The side mirrors shake - some more than others. It's most noticeable on the driver's side because it is not convex like the passenger mirror. You can try getting the mirror replaced, but the new one will probably do the same thing.
I have cured shakey mirrors with a block of soft foam plastic in the mirror housing and behind the mirror glass. Didn't restrict the electric adjustment very much at all. My smart mirror has never shaken.
I actually brought this up with my dealer yesterday, I have the same problem, same mirror. It's not horrible all of the time, usually at 55 or faster it's really noticeable. They said they'd look through the service website and see if there were other incidents they could reference. I'll post what I hear, if anything.
In march of last year I took my smart in for this same reason. after "they" inspected the car and even drove it, they came up with the pathetic excuse that they could not replicate the customers issue... wrote me off.... a week later I came in again with another issue and asked them again to look at the mirror issue. But this time I drove the car with them and pointed out the obvious issue... they deliberated and came back with yet another blow off.. they said that the vibration in the drivers side mirror is part of the normal operational parameters of the car! So I told them the passengers side mirror then is broken, and they should fix it... as it does not vibrate like the drivers side one! They did not like that!
Now a year and a half later the mirror vibrates like a Chihuahua in Michael Vick's home. So let me know as well if the MB service personnel actually admit there is an issue.
