Yeah, I'm not happy about this. Although my "Pure" is a bargain, I'd be happier with at least a 3/36 warranty. Let's wait and see the cost before the real complaining starts. LOL

That's a good point; I can't see the North American smart having one warranty for Canada and another for the USA. Hopefully it's 4 yrs/48K miles all around.

Another thought on the 2 year warranty; how easy would it be to sell a 2 year old car with no factory warranty left?

M-B Canada will do what M-B Canada will do, and PAG will do it their way; there is no connection. But there will be talk.

When I called smartUSA yesterday morning their response indicating that it was "under discussion" was so quick that it argues that it is a warm if not hot issue. At least among the phone-talkers.

Perhaps the extended warranties will be relatively inexpensive. You can buy a $million-plus personal liability policy for not-too-much.

I wonder if American Express will double my factory warranty period (like they do on other purchases) if I just use the card? And I'll get a bunch of airline miles too!

The roadside assistance "smart One" looks interesting. Supported by the same group that handles thousands of Penske rental trucks daily on the road.

Good luck, when I bought my last car 2 years ago, the dealer would not take a credit card because (as I was told) of the fact that a purchase can be legally disputed which can cause the dealer more effort than it is worth, and it is possible for him to end up with a "used' car after a full refund. Plus I imagine that they don't like to pay the credit card processing fee out of the profit.

That is not to say that I won't try it on the smart

I'll bet that the dealer will refuse to take a credit card, given the relatively high merchant charges, especially for Amex (up to 3%).
Let me know if the card works. I'd love to get the extra airline miles too.

I've seen dealers take credit cards for partial of the car, but not the whole thing - they usually have an arbitrary limit of some sort. Probably not enough to kick off your warranty thing.

There may be no connection between the Canadian and USA warranties; we'll see. However, would we even be discussing buying "extra" warranty coverage if this was a Toyota, Chevy or other car in the same price range? I don't think so.
