The more I think about it , the more it bothers me. I know of no other car available today that has such a short warranty. 30 years ago when the typical car buyer traded in every other year, and the cars were guaranteed to fall apart after 50,000 miles, that was the norm. But we are in a new era, and even though the car is inexpensive, it is inappropriate for it's manufacturer to classify it as disposable. I have an '90 GMC pickup and my wife has an '89 Acura. At 150,000 miles each, the handling is getting a bit loose and should probably be replaced. And yes, I bought an extended warranty for the '02 MINI, but that was to take the factory warranty from 4 years out to eight. The fancy electronics were failing all the time, and it was the first car ever for which I felt compelled to by an extended warranty. The one time I had a 2 year warranty ('74 Mustang II) , the whole thing fell apart in month 25. No extended warranties available then. If the manufacturer doesn't have confidence in the Smart, maybe I shouldn't have either. This is a big issue.
