Weird Check Engine Light Problem

I bought my Smart brand new last week and after i put a 100 miles on it the check engine light came on so I went to Smart and they said the computer was detecting a leak in the evap system but there is no leak so they said its a valve that needs replacing. Anyway I brought it back and got the valve replaced but on the way home the light came on again so I went back and the guy said it was still showing a leak in the evap system so he looked concerned and told me to bring it in Tuesday and he would give me a loaner car while they try to fix this. After I left the Smart Center again the light never came back on should I still take it Tuesday to get looked at if the light didnt come back on or what.

Unless it's a short trip and you've got plenty of free time, I'd wait. IIRC, there have been a lot of mentions on various threads of it taking a while for the CEL to finally shut off after the problem has been corrected. Granted though, I believe most of those were related to loose gas caps and/or overfilling.

Have not seen a lot of the thse but we have had a few. First thing we do now is smoke test the vehicle. 9 out of 10 times we have found a problem with the charcoal canister. Either the shut off valve leaks or the seal between the valve and canister has gotten kinked when they assemble it at the factory.

Since you don't live too far from the Dealer and they offer you a loaner, why not let them handle it the way they like? Bring them a copy of smartSEATTLE's experience. It may be helpful.

I agree. The smoke machine is your friend in this situation.

I took it to the dealer about 2-3 days ago and they gave me a loaner car that I've been using. It's Smart Fortwo too but its got manual steering and none of the extra stuff. I wonder if its somethin serious or what. They said they'd call me tomorrow to touch base with me. Also when I was filling out the paper work this lady was like are you even old enough to drive. I said I'm 18 and she goes lol well sweety you look like your 12 that was mean

yeah, my wife gets carded at bars every so often. She looks much younger than she is (lets say she is over the big five-oh)

Sometimes it takes a while for smart global to get back to them.
