Weird lurking noise when going slow

My smart makes a very strange noise when I take my foot off the gas at about 5mph in parking lots. Doesn't seem to be an issue at higher speeds. I have heard that the fuel/air program is a bit off from 0-5mph on the 2008 models but why the weird noise? Any other 2008 owner's experience this?

What kind of noise? At slow speeds, I get a mild rattling sound, which is just gearbox noise. Completely normal in my opinion. Every manual gearbox I've ever had did that.

I thought lurkers were quiet, hence my own confusion on the "lurking noise."

Maybe he's confusing it with the more prevalent "trolling noise?"

What I meant was that I feel like the car is lurking forward w/ out me pressing the gas pedal when I hear the noise. It kind of sound like the noise my motorcycle makes when I put it into the next gear but it doesn't catch. I mean its not that bad but I just wanted to know if it was normal or not.

If a lurker lurks in the woods would they still make a sound if no one is there to hear it?

Your description doesn't ring a bell. When you're at 0 and you take your foot off the brake with no gas applied, creep mode will get you moving. When you're at 5mph and you take the foot off the gas, the fuel may cut until the engine reaches its idle speed at which point you should have a steady speed.

Is it that when you slow, the clutch disengages and reengages back and forth?

And is this what the "bucking" is all about? Time to experiment.

And when you first start off every time after starting the car,at about 7 MPH the abs does a test and you can feel it in the floorboard.
Don't know if this is it but I havent seen it mentioned in a while
