What Basic Tools Required for smart?

Hello all,

So I've got the smart in my garage, and now I want to do some basic mechanical work.

But, I find that all my old tool, sockets, wrenches are to US inches, etc.

Can anybody list here a very good supply of metric tools I will find useful over the next few years that I intend to own this smart. I've got a few metric tools, but is there a tool kit out there that you might recommend to fit most needs?

Many thanks,
Vibrato

You'll need a set of Torx wrenches, a 24 mm socket (oil change), a torque wrench, general set of metric sockets.

I had the metric sockets but needed to buy the Torx bits (used on just about every screw on the smart) and the 24mm socket. If you intend on doing an oil change yourself I'd recommend a 1 1/2 or 2 ft socket wrench or breaker bar to help you get the 47 or so foot pounds of torque needed to get the drain plug off.

Seems like there is some kind of Torx or 12 point socket tool needed as well - not sure what sizes. I have used the following so far:
T-30 Torx bit screw driver
13 mm box wrench (caliper housing)
15 mm socket (wheels)
18 mm socket (caliper frames)

Tack puller for the plastic rivets that hold some body panels on.

Or you can buy an upholster tool or panel tool similar but with a slightly wider head and opening.

If you're not earning a living with your tools, it's hard to beat Harbor Freight. Look at their etched socket sets which are decent quality AND readable by 55 year old eyes, their torx driver set is about the price of one tool at sears and their upholstery tool set is good enough and cheap.
I DO make a living with my tools and many of them are from Harbor Freight. Just don't expect to use a 3 foot cheater without breaking them. The beauty of the tools being inexpensive is I can have the right size tool for the job instead of overworking smaller tools. (Got a 3/4" socket set from them for $40 on sale. That might buy you A 3/4" socket off the tool truck)
You should be able to assemble a pretty comprehensive kit for the smart for under $100.
