What is that beeping?

Turned off the engine, took out the key and there was a continuous beeping. No lights on to indicate the problem. Put the key back in, started the engine and the beeping stopped. It beeped again when stopping outside the basement door before pulling in. Stopped when we turned off the engine. Can somebody please tell me what this is? I've only had my Cabriolet for 3 days!

Mine occassionally is confused at shutdown and does this.

I reinsert the key in the ignition, switch to first position and back to off and remove the key. It seems to reset properly.

I haven't worried about it because it always resets and I'm not sure that it's indicative of a serious problem. Anyone else see it this way?

The typical warning occurs when turning the key from position 1 to position 0 and extracting almost immediately. If there's a slight pause between the "off" position and key extraction, there tends not to be a warning beep. To reset the beep, reinsert jay, turn to position 1, back to position 0, and not so immediately you can remove your key.

It's possible it's something else. Also keep in mind that if you open the door before the key is extracted, beeping indicates to the driver exiting that the key is still in the ignition.

Let us know if your beeps are somehow different.

It could also mean that your headlights or side markers are still on. Auto mode shouldn't beep but if the lights are on, manually set, then it'll beep when you open the door.

It's just your smart telling you - "please please can't we go for another drive, please please!"

Thanks everybody for the info. The first time my passenger opened the door before I took out the key and that was the continuous beep. The second time it beeped when I was just stopped before entering the garage.

Anyway, will do your suggestions. Maybe I just got in a hurry. I like the one about "please, can we go for another ride". That's the way I feel when I am home for a while! Just wanna go again!
