Always imagined the best battery would be the free one from smart, under warranty.

Depends on your definition of "best." Best dollar value, yes. For me, a 600 mile round trip to said dealer would take a full day, costing me 15 gallons of gas = $30, and a day off work - 8 hours @ $x/hr = much more than that. So if I've got to drive up to the dealer for a new battery, I can get an Optima cheaper and have a longer lasting, better quality battery.

C'est la vie.

Well said and replacing a cheap battery with a cheap battery is something I would prefer not to do. I also want to get rid of the vented batery and have a sealed bettery that I do not need to check electrolite.

I see no info concerning the hold down and seeing if it needs modifying. bump unless of course you can point me to the info in this thread. Also see no info concerning the 35 series which seems to perhaps being a better fit.

I concur. And the second best solution is to NOT spend 1,000 bucks on some lithium-based battery. That's insane. But I can always tell my wife "Hey honey, I just saved 900 bucks on a smart battery!".

For me it was the replacement the dealer gave me for no charge including the new factory hold down to keep it in place.
