Thank you for your reply.Did they give you an interstate mt 47? I looked at that battery and saw no vent, does your replacement have a hookup for the vent tube?

This is what they gave me after to stock one fail a load test. The lights no longer dim on upshifts and there is a vent hose.

Miatas come from the factory with panasonic batteries that are not available in the US witch is kind of a shame seeing how I had one go for twelve years before it would no longer hold a charge.

Optima D35 AKA 8040-218

I like the yellow top Optima since I leave some electronics always on. I ran a power tap into the glovebox and keep my GPS and Sirius receiver on all the time. I also recharge tools on the road.

The yellow top is much better for deep cycling. I used the yellow Optima in my previous field service vehicle (Jeep liberty) and it was great.

The D35 has the posts in the right place. You might have to loosen the negative wire at the frame connection and turn it a bit to reach. Put a wedge of some type on the drivers and forward side of the battery to keep it in place during high performance maneuvers.

Finally, a safety point of view. The Optima battery is non-spillable. If the unfortunate severe accident ever occurs I really don't want a liquid acid battery in the passenger compartment with me.
